Raheem Sterling congratulated by team mates for historic hat trick

Juergen Klopp’s reign as Liverpool manager began with a few points made but only one gained from an exciting, end-to-end 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Klopp’s new team displayed signs of the high energy, high-pressing full-throttle footballing style he perfected at Borussia Dortmund, but without the injured Daniel Sturridge in attack, they lacked the guile to break down a resilient Spurs defence.

Spurs though displayed the high-pressing game which their coach Mauricio Pochettino favours but the hosts failed to find a route to goal and in the end a draw was a fair reflection of the game.

Spurs have now stretched their run to eight league matches without defeat since the opening day while Liverpool have drawn six of their last seven games in all competitions with Klopp now a little wiser about his new side.

Tottenham are now seventh in the table with 14 points, a point clear of Liverpool in ninth.

In other matches Manchester City walloped AFC Bournemouth 5-1, with a first hat trick in the senior team by Raheem Sterling. Ivory Coast International Wilfried Bony also completed the scoreline with a brace.

Even without the injured Sergio Aguero, in the match at Eithad Stadium, City showed no sign of bluntness in attack, with Sterling and  Bony doing the maximum damage. AFC Bournemouth was only able to pull one back through Glenn Murray in the 22nd minute.

With the result City kept their two-point advantage over Arsenal and Manchester United.

On a day Everton mourned the passage of an icon of the club, Howard Kendall, a former player and manager, who died at the age of 69, Manchester United sent them into deeper mourning, walloping them 3-0.

Wayne Rooney moved into joint-second place in the Barclays Premier League all-time goalscorers list as he slotted in one of the goals in the second half.

United went in at half-time 2-0 up with goals from Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera and just as it seemed Everton would get back in the match after the the break, Rooney broke to score his first goal away from home in 17 league matches and his first at Goodison Park since 2007.

‘s opening goal at Stamford Bridge

It was a big day of relief for Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho as his struggling side beat another struggler, Aston Villa, which has not won a single match this season.

A close-range finish from Diego Costa and an Alan Hutton own goal gave Chelsea their first win in four matches, beating Aston Villa 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal too were able to hold their own, breaking the defence of Watford in the second half, with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and olivier Giroud.

Arsenal maintain their second position on the league table.
