Chuka Umunna, the British Labour MP born to a Nigerian father , has announced he is getting married.
The former shadow business secretary, 37, who pulled out of the Labour leadership race to protect girlfriend Alice Sullivan, 31, is now engaged to her after a whirlwind romance.
The Streatham MP, known for his expensive suits and his love of partying, is said to be ‘over the moon’ about marrying the employment lawyer, who is the daughter of a millionaire Xerox executive.
Mr Umunna had kept Alice’s identity a secret until he started his brief campaign to replace Ed Miliband and took her with him to appear on the Andrew Marr show on BBC One.
Now five months later her parents have announced the couple’s engagement in The Times, with the Streatham MP’s agreement.
Alice, 31, is an associate at City law firm Lewis Silkin where she advises clients on employment law.
