Hat-trick man Osimhen in white jersey scores again

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets made a mincemeat  of the Australian U-17 team on Wednesday at Estadio Sausalito, Vina Del Mar,  Chile,  scoring six goals, with the tournament’s highest scorer, Victor Osimhen, increasing his tally with  a hat trick.

Nigeria made 36 attempts at goal all through the game, in contrast to the Australian’s 16 attempts, although little separated the two teams in possession, 51 to Nigeria, to 49 Australia overall.

The Australians proved knotty to crack at the beginning of the game, twice forcing Nigerian goalkeeper, Akpan Udoh  to make  several saves within the first 15 minutes.

But the Golden Eaglets broke their resistance in the 22nd minute with a goal by the Nigerian hit man, Osimhen. Few minutes after, Nigeria had a penalty, which was well converted by captain, Kelechi Nwakali.

At half-time, Nigeria led 2-0.

On resumption for the second half, the Australians put up some strong displays, holding possession sometimes more than the Nigerians. But it was the Golden Eaglets that had result to show on the attack. Osimhen  scored  Nigeria ‘s  third goal on 73rd minute. Six minutes after, he completed his hat trick, with his third of the night. The goal was  another laser-perfect drive into the top corner.

The deflated Aussies conceded two more goals in the dying minutes as substitute Edidiong Michael Essien,  converted a penalty on 86th minute and then Samuel Chukwueze, inflicted further pain, as he banged in Nigeria’s sixth goal, making the defending champions stroll  into the last-eight with confidence.

Brazil are Golden Eaglets next opponents. The match will be played on Sunday 1 November at 20.00 Hours Nigerian time.
