Senator Pwajok: dies

The  governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State, Senator Gyang Pwajok, who last week lost the legal bid to unseat Governor Simon Lalong  of the All Progressives Congress, is dead.

He  died Wednesday night in hospital in India. He was 48 years old.

According to Daily Trust online, his death was confirmed by Chuwang Dung, who served as head of the media team for Pwajok’s  campaign for the governorship seat.

Pwajok had represented Plateau-North in the 7th Senate between 2012 and 2015, succeeding  Senator Gyang Dantong, who died of shock while attending a mass burial of persons killed by suspected insurgents in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area in 2012

“The Senator has been confirmed dead in an Indian hospital where he has been receiving treatment,” Dung told Daily Trust.

“He had been on admission in the hospital for some time now.”

There were rumours about his death before, after he disappeared from the public arena. This was in July. But the rumour was trashed.

Pwajok was said to be a cousin of former governor Jonah Jang, who is now a  Senator, representing the same constituency that Pwajok represented.

In the election Pwajok lost to Lalong on 11 April, he polled 520,627  to Lalong’s  564,319 votes.
