Bisi Yusuff at the town hall meeting

The lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Bisi Yusuff, has disclosed that the current eighth session of the House passed a total of 28 resolutions since its inception in June.

This is aside from the various oversight engaged in by members of the House during this same period.

Yusuff, who is now the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts for Local Governments, made this disclosure to his constituents at the ongoing town hall meetings simultaneously engaged in by members of the House.

At the Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area Secretariat where he held his town hall meeting, Yusuff further said the House had resolved a lot of communal and other crisis in the period under review.

The event is aimed at feeling the pulse of the people of the state so that the lawmakers would be able to liaise with executive arm of the state government to bring democratic dividends to them.

“Today is not a day of dancing and laughing, but a day of reflection on the challenges facing us with the aim of finding a lasting solution to them.

“Our aim is to harness all issues that would inform the year 2016 budget and discussing the progress and the challenges of our constituency.

“The decision to reach out to our constituents and other groups is borne out of our desire to deepen the democratic culture as well as facilitate participatory governance in the state,” the lawmaker told his constituents adding that the state and the House of Assembly have continued to be reference points to most parts of the world and that in all its activities, the House puts the people first.

Yusuff agreed that the youths have a lot of challenges before them, but that they also have a major role to play in the solutions. They must come up with ideas that could help them grow, he said.

He also appealed to his constituents to keep up with the pace of progress in the state and continue to support the party so that they could continue to rip the dividends of good governance.

Part of the challenges the people of the area mentioned was the state of the proposed Alimosho Business District saying this would bring development to the area.

Many also complained about the roads in their domain. They also pleaded with the governor to help reduce gridlocks in the area including construction of a flyover in the area.

Some of the residents in the area called for the upgrade of the markets in the area.

Speaking about the deplorable state of roads in the constituencty, Olufemi Ojo, the Chairman, Community Development Association (CDA) of Mosan Okunola Local Council Development Area, suggested that fixing the roads would not only ease traffic, it would bring development to the area.

He also pleaded with the government to boost the state fire service to make it work efficiently.

Assistant Secretary of the Lagos State Committee for Defence of Human Right, Omidji Adebayo, pleaded with the government to domesticate the Freedom of Information while also calling for creation of Human Right Desks in all council areas of the state to check the excesses in the enforcement of the environment sanitation laws.

In his complaint, spokesman for Alimosho Youth Council, Oshungboye Obafemi, said politicians have neglected youths. He pleaded for the inclusion of youths in issues that have to do with security in the area.

While addressing the crowd, the Executive Secretary of the Mosan Okunola LCDA, Opeyemi Akindele, urged for cooperation with the lawmaker and other political leaders in the area so as to make the people reach their collective goals.
