Troy Deeney was the hero and villain simultaneously in the early afternoon encounter between Watford and Manchester United on Saturday.
Deeney has emerged hero for Watford after neutralising in the 87th minute via a penalty, the United 11th minute goal lead by Memphis Depay.
But some minutes after, he became the villain as he recorded an own goal as he tried to keep off a shot by the United German midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Replays showed that Schweinsteiger’s ball was going out until Deeney’s touch deflected it inside the net.
The Watford fans went from jubilation to frustration in a matter of minutes.
Final scoreline, Watford 1, Manchester United 2.
The victory has sent United onto the top of the table, with 27 points. But that leadership will be temporary if Arsenal and Manchester City, with 26 points each were able to win their matches. Arsenal will play West Brom while , Manchester City play Liverpool, late evening.
