Bayelsa: JTF arrests suspected political thugs, recovers weapons

The Joint Task Force, JTF, has arrested five suspected political thugs at their hideout in Okaka suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.

The news of the arrest was disclosed by the Commander of JTF, Operation Pulo Shield, OP PS, Major General Alani Gafar Okunola at their (OP PS) headquarters. According to the Commander, the suspects are undergoing interrogation.

Weapons recovered include: Two empty AK rifle magazine, one 36 hand grenade, a pair of military uniform, a combat shoe and a bag containing personal belongings.

JTF also said that during a patrol at Mansonkri fishing camp in Nembe and Southern Ijaw creek, JTF recovered eight pump election cartridges and various types of military rank badges, jungle boots, one cartridge carrier, three waist belts and three NA infantry line yards

Major-General Okunola declared that the operation would not stop even after the Bayelsa state governorship election.

“ I want to assure you that we will not relent in our effort at making sure that activities of these hoodlums are adequately checkmated especially now that the Bayelsa state gubernatorial election is around the corner” he added.

Okunola explained that OP PS is working with other security agencies in the movement of sensitive electoral materials and escorting electoral officials.

Okunola noted that the military would continue its vehicular patrol and patrol of the waterways to checkmate any group of persons planning to disrupt the election.
