The Nigerian Army has paraded nine political thugs arrested from Southern Ijaw local government during the December 5th and 6th Bayelsa State governorship election .

The Commander of 2 Brigade of the ‘Operation Safe Conduct,’ Brigadier-General Stevenson Olabanji, while parading the suspects in Yenagoa said some of them were arrested with cloned and stolen Permanent Voters Cards.

The army also recovered five AK 47 rifles and live ammunition from the suspects. He said the suspects have been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution.

In his remarks, the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Oki, said the arrest was due to the synergy between the various security agencies.

He said the suspects have been moved to Abuja for further investigation to know those behind their nefarious acts.
Since the inconclusive Governorship election in Bayelsa state, both All Progressive Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, have slammed the security agencies for alleged partisan roles played during the polls in favour of either party, all of which the security agencies have denied culpability
