President Muhammadu Buhari  said today that the government a treasonable felony case against Mazi  Nnamdi Kanu, founder of the Indigenous People of Biafra and pirate radio Biafra.

Kanu detained since 14 October has been in DSS detention despite two court orders asking the agency to release him on unconditional bail.

Buhari made the government position known today during his maiden Presidential media chat with a panel of journalists in Abuja.

“ And the one you are calling Kanu, do you know he brought equipment to this country? He has two passports, but he didn’t come into this country with any of it. There is a treasonable felony charge against him and I hope the court will listen to it. They say they are marginalized, but they haven’t explain the extent of the marginalisation.”

The President also spoke on the court bail for former national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

“Technically, you can see the kind of atrocities those people committed against the government. The former President just called the CBN governor to give him N40 billion. if they jump bail, it will be a problem for this country.”

The interview dwelt on a number of issues, but the panelists focussed more on the foreign exchange restrictions, corruption and insecurity, especially the fate of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls.

On tertiary education, Buhari said:  “The standard of our tertiary education is poor. There is number of things that need to be done in terms of building new classrooms, laboratories. New classrooms have to be built, the teachers have to be comfortable.”
