The masked Ghanaian journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas: honoured by Foreign Policy Magazine

US Foreign Policy magazine has named Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas as one of this year’s 100 leading global thinkers.

Also recognized are Pope Francis, Banksy, Chai Jing, Angela Merkel, and Mosoka Fallah.

In a citation for the masked Ghanaian journalist, the magazine mentioned Anas defining revelation  this year, a 500-minute  video that exposes corruption and debauchery in Ghana’s judiciary.  Consequently seven high court judges  and 22 lower judicial officers were suspended by the authorities.

The World Investigates, TWI, a team of global investigators that Anas belongs congratulated the Ghanaian in a statement today.  Jonathan Ossoff, Managing Director of Insight TWI.com said: ” To us, this recognition signals that the ideas driving Anas – and our work with him at Insight TWI – are ideas that will grow in importance and shape the future.

“Anas believes in journalism that put criminals and corrupt officials behind bars. For Anas, it’s not enough merely to report. He is driven to name, shame, and jail. And the world is taking notice,” Ossoff added.

Anas’ past  investigations have  taken down a sex trafficking syndicate, contract killers of children, traffickers in albino limbs, money launderers, and corrupt officials at the highest levels. He once spent months undercover as an inmate in Ghana’s worst prison to expose its appalling conditions.

Anas believes journalism should benefit society, otherwise it is useless. So, his goal as he once put it, is to name, shame and jail corrupt public officials and criminals in the private sector.
