Gowon calls religious leaders to pray for Nigeria

General Yakubu Gowon, rtd, a former Military head of state has urged leaders of religious institutions to pray for the present administration and the military to overcome the security challenges facing the country.

Gowon gave the charge during a one day National Prayer Rally held in Port Harcourt, under the canopy of the Prayer Network with the theme When a Nation Travails.

The former military head of state who is the convener of the Prayer Network, Nigeria Prays said the essence of the programme is to intercede for leaders at all levels of government for stability and unity as well as to end the incessant terrorist bombings in the North East.

On his part, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, described Nigeria as a nation covenanted to God and expressed optimism that Nigeria will come out strong as a country from its present challenges.

Represented by his Deputy Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Governor Wike said the hosting of the programme in Port Harcourt will bring spiritual blessings to the state and commended the former head of rallying Nigerians to seek the intervention of God in the affairs of the nation.
