Jamie Vardy celebrates with team mates

A frustrated Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said today that he has given up hope on his team making the Top Four in this season’s Barclays Premier League.

He spoke after another disappointing day at King Power Stadium in Leicester, where the team lost 1-2 to in-form Leicester City.

“It’s a big frustration for me because it betrays the work I have done in the week. It’s difficult for us to score goals when we have some players that are not at their best level. Everybody knows that. When you have players, especially in crucial positions, knowing they are not at their level, it is very difficult. Top four gone? Clearly, yes,” Mourinho declared.

Jamie Vardy had opened scoring for the on fire Leicester on 34th minute, latching on a pass in the box, leaving the Chelsea defence flummoxed on how he did it.

Then three minutes after the resumption of play, Algerian player, Riyad Mahrez, curled in a scintillating ball, into the right corner of the net, that completely beat the Chelsea keeper, Courtois.

Chelsea thereafter made some changes and their efforts were rewarded in the 77th minute, when substitute Loic Remy reduced the deficit by a goal. It was the best they could do, as the Leicester defence thwarted many dangerous moves of the Chelsea attack.

Said Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri, a former manager of Chelsea:
“I think we played a fantastic hour, the last 30 minutes we suffered a lot, but they are the champions, we have to suffer to win the match. I am very pleased with the performance, we played very well. All the players believe in each other and help each other, only in this way you can win against the champions. We need five more points. When we get 40 points, then we change the target.”

with the victory, Leicester returned to the top of the Barclays League table, two points clear of second-placed Arsenal and 20 points far away from Chelsea, who remain in 16th, just one point clear of the relegation zone.
