The Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) has named the eight taekwondoists who will resume camp in Lagos to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers in Morocco from Feb. 4 to Feb. 7.

The Secretary of NTF, Sunny Obot, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that the taekwondoists include four males and four females.

The athletes who will camp at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos are to be coached by Osita Egbim and Victor John.

Obot said that the taekwondoists were selected based on their current forms in categories as well as brilliant performances at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 African Games.

“This national camping is necessary for the selected athletes who have been training and it is basically to put them in proper shape for a successful outing.

“The camp will also give them the opportunity to prove their superiority among their peers,’’ he said, adding that there would be trials at the camp to get the final four from both categories.

He said the taekwondoists also performed credibly at the competitions held in the country in 2015 — Lagos Classics Open, Chika Chukwumerije Sports Foundation (CCSF) Open, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Championships and the Lagos Open.

“The technical officials have been monitoring the activities of the athletes and their performances which was the yardstick that was used to invite them to the camp,’’ he said.

The NTF scribe gave the names of the male taekwondoists as Jamilu Mohammed (58kg), Edwin Samson (68kg), Olusola Segun (67kg), Adamu Isah (58kg).

The females are Chinazum Nwosu (57kg), Uzoamaka Otuadinma (+67kg), Fatimah Abdullahi (-57kg) and Esther Uzoukwu (+67kg).
