Justice Hussein Baba Ahmed has adjourned till next week Friday, 4 February the trial of Nigeria’s former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki.

This followed his application for a stoppage of the trial.

Dasuki is facing charges of alleged diversion of $2.1 billion arms funds

He is facing a 19 count charge for stealing N13.5 billion,($68million), part of the $2.1 billion defence fund that was allegedly misappropriated under the Jonathan presidency .

Charged with him are Shuiabu Salisu, a Finance Director in the NSA office; Aminu Baba-Kusa, former Group Executive Director with NNPC; Acacia Holdings Ltd and Reliance Reference Hospital.

In the application dated January 12, 2016 and filed by his lawyer Joseph Daudu (SAN), Dasuki asks the court to discharge him or stay the proceedings due to the non-compliance to an earlier order of the court granting him bail.

‎But prosecution counsel Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) opposed the application on the grounds that by the provisions of Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), no application to delay trial should be taken.

Other defence lawyers Akin Olujimi, Solomon Umoh, and Wale Akanni, all Senior Advocates of Nigeria said they are yet to be served with the application and EFCC’s reply.

Consequently, Justice Hussein Baba Yusuf adjourned the case to February 4 for ruling.

More details later.
