Serena Williams: makes it short and quick

Serena Williams: makes it short and quick

Serena Williams literally demolished her third round opponent,  18-year-old Russian Daria Kasatkina on Friday night at Australian Open 2016. The world number one hardly gave the youngster a breather wrapping up the game 6-1 6-1 in less than 45 minutes.

Except for the two points dropped in her opening game, Williams served very well, serving  every other game out to love – and made just eight unforced errors, two in the second set.

“I think I played well today,” Williams said. “It was one of those days where everything I did went right. It was a good day today.”

Kasatkina, meanwhile, struggled. All five of her double-faults pushed Williams towards breaks, and the world No.1 made the court as large as possible to keep her opponent off balance throughout.

Williams faces another Russian youngster in the fourth round in the form of 21-year-old Margarita Gasparyan. If she has it her way, it will be another quick contest – especially as her crop-top outfit leaves her exposed to the unseasonable Melbourne chill.

“It’s definitely not built for warmth, but it’s built for speed,” Williams said of the design.

It sure worked on Friday.

Serena Williams however had encouraging words for her Friday opponent.

“I have so many memories of that age,” Williams said. “She has such a bright future – she’s so young!”, she said post match.
