Governor Dickson still in the lead

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will declare any moment from now the final result of the contentious supplementary governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The election was declared inconclusive after voting on  5 December, following violence.

Collated results so far, showed that Governor Seriake Dickson is still in the lead, with a majority of 33,083 votes, over his APC rival and former governor Timpire Sylva.

Dickson now has 108,062 votes, while Sylva has 74,979 votes.

Yet to be declared is the much awaited result of Southern Ijaw local council, where close to 5,000 policemen and soldiers were deployed on Saturday.

After voting in some units in Yenagoa,Brass,Sagbama and Ogbia local Government areas, the consolidated results declared showed that Dickson won in the three councils,  while Sylva was the clear winner in Brass.

The commission took a break at 2am this morning and is expected to resume at 11am today for the declaration of the results  for   Nembe, Ekeremor and the decisive Southern Ijaw . But by noon, the collation was still being done.

Southern Ijaw has the largest number of voters in the state,almost same as the seven other local government areas put together.

Sylva believes that he could topple the PDP candidate with votes from this council which has 120,000 registered voters.
