The Kogi state House of Assembly has confirmed Mr. Simon Achuba as deputy governor of the state.

Achuba, a former two-time member of the Kogi House of Assembly, was unanimously confirmed by members of the house, following a motion for his confirmation by Hon. Sunday Shugaba (Bassa).

The motion was seconded by Hon. Friday Sani (Igalaneka/Odolu).

Governor Yahaya Bello had sent his nomination to the Assembly on Monday.

He was sworn in last month without a deputy, the first time it would happen in 16 years of Nigeria’s democracy.

Achuba has now filled the vacuum created by the decision of Mr. Abiodun Faleke, to reject his nomination as the running mate to Bello, after the death of his principal, Abubakar Audu.

Faleke who is now in court, insisted that the election was already won by Audu and himself and there was no need for INEC to have called for supplementary election and to have allowed the party field Bello as the party’s ‘supplementary candidate’.
