Assuming all the 402 staff of Nigeria’s Police Service Commission go on local travels to police formations in Nigeria, each one will spend N8.457million a year, making up for the N3.4bn provided in the budget estimate for this year.

A shocked committee of the Nigerian Senate on police matters could not believe the crazy estimate and asked Mike Okiro, the the Chairman of the commission,to justify it.

Okiro rambled that the commission has been underfunded over the years.

” The mandate of the commission is to monitor the conduct of the Police. It behoves the staff of the commission to travel wide in order to see what the Police are doing.

” The Police Service Commission monitors the recruitment of police and if there are complains against the Police, we move from one state to the other,” he said.

Okiro, a former Inspector General of Police said N223m have been budgeted for advertisement in Newspapers. The commission also budgeted N260m for the purchase of vehicles.

He also said the PSC would embark on recruitment of staff this year.

“You can use your wisdom to adjust the budget, “he told the senators.

Chairman of Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim who expressed shock over the budget asked the commission to adjust it, saying” Go back and justify your budget “.

He said his Committee will today visit the headquarters of the commission to see the ongoing construction that has gulped over N3billion.
