This was after the Federal High Court in Awka struck out the maintenance of status quo order earlier issued.

Gabriel Chukwuma, a former owner of the club, when it was Gabros International FC, had through his counsel, J.N Mbanugha, wanted the court to stop the club’s new owners.

He had also tried stopping the new owners, Ifeanyi Ubah, from using the football facility.

Also, he had asked that the club should not take part in the league until the determination of substantive suits bordering on the ownership and control of the club.

The former Gabros FC of Nnewi was acquired and renamed FC IfeanyiUbah before competing in the league in the 2014/2015 season.

But FC IfeanyiUbah’s counsel, Ajibola Oluyede, argued that there was a subsisting order of an Abuja High Court.

He said the order had restrained the plaintiff; Gabriel Chukwuma, his agents and whosoever, from interfering in the club’s affairs.

Oluyede also filed an application of Preliminary Objection which the judge admitted and granted Mbanugha his plea for time to reply to.

In his ruling, Justice I. D. Gafai said the substantive suit could not be determined until the preliminary objection and motion on notice were heard.

Gafai also said that he was disturbed that the plaintiff was trying to pitch his court against another High Court which had made an order on the matter.

He said in the light of the Abuja High Court’s order brought to his notice, the order for maintenance of status quo earlier made had been struck out.

The judge said the order of the Abuja High Court restraining Chukwuma from interfering still holds.

The matter was then adjourned to March 3.

Speaking shortly after the court session, Ubah described the effort to scuttle the activities of the club as wicked and unnecessary.

Ubah who assured the club’s supporters of a promising season said he was glad the court did not contradict itself, and expressed confidence in the system.
