The Kano state government has set up a nine-committee for the resettlement of displaced traders affected by the fire incident at the Sabon Gari market in the state on Saturday.

Many shops and goods were destroyed in the fire incident.

Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, the Director General, Media and Communications to the governor, said in a statement that Ganduje explained that the committee is mandated to scout for appropriate sites within existing markets in the state capital where the victims can be temporarily resettled so as to alleviate their plight.

The governor, he said, also tasked the committee to educate the traders on the government’s planned restructuring of the market as well as other markets.

He also urged the committee to fully enlighten the traders on the efforts made by the government to quench the inferno that occurred at the market.

The governor mandated the committee to advise the administration on any other issue that would promote commercial activities at the Sabon Gari and other markets in the state to boost the status of Kano as a commercial city state.

In his response, chairman of the committee, Alhaji Alin DanBagadaza, promised to work tirelessly towards executing the assignment.

The statement added that the governor has urged traders in the state to be very cautious while making use of electrical appliances, inflammables and smoking cigarette in markets and other business premises.

Ganduje, it was learnt, made the call during a meeting with leaders of Kantin Kwari market pointing out that the traders must also be vigilant especially in respect of suspicious people and movements.

Governor Ganduje further maintained that his administration was concerned over the rate of fire outbreaks in markets in Kano city and explained that the government plans to restructure markets in the state starting with Kantin Kwari market.

The initiative, according to him, entails provision of collapsible structures for petty traders, construction of road network, provision of street light and fire service points.

In their remarks, the representatives of the traders, Alhaji Liti Kulkul and Jamilu Daneji promised to cooperate with the government towards the success of the inititatives by the government.
