Jumoke Akindele: impeached

On a day celebrated worldwide as Women’s Day, the Speaker of Ondo state, Jumoke Akindele has been  kicked out by 18 members, on allegations of gross misconduct and poor leadership.

Also impeached  Tuesday night at the legislators’ quarters, was  her deputy, Fatai Olotu.

Elected to replace them are Iroju  Ogundeji and  Ayo Arowole as speaker and deputy.

Ogundeji represents Odigbo constituency, from Ondo South, while Arowole represents Owo. Both are PDP members like Akindele.

Akindele, a lawyer represents Okitipupa in the assembly. She is also a lawyer before venturing into politics in 2006.

She was first elected speaker in May 2014 and re-elected by the 8th Assembly last year.

The House has 26 members.
