Nike Azeez: on the run

The police have  declared a Lagos property owner wanted  for  allegedly setting her tenant’s room and parlour  ablaze.

Mrs Nike Azeez allegedly burnt the tenant’s room  to eject him from the house.

The police have already arrested Nike’s  husband,  Jamiu Azeez  and detained him at Isheri Oshun division for his alleged involvement in the arson by his wife.

The police have also discovered traces  of  the burnt N250, 000 kept in the house by the victim Adeleke Shakiru.

Shakiru who spent the night in the open said  he was not owing the landlord before the incident happened. He has requested for the assistance of public spirited Nigerians.

Mrs Nike Azeez shocked the residents of Ijegun community in Lagos State western Nigeria, on Tuesday morning after she  set her tenant’s apartment ablaze and properties inside the apartment was destroyed.

It took the intervention of the residents to quench the fire from spreading to other apartments and the entire building.

The incident happened at about 9 am on Tuesday at  Two brothers Street in Ijegun where the landlady lives with the tenant.

According to residents,  Mrs Nike Azeez reportedly brought some petrol and broke into Adeleke Shakiru’s room and parlour apartment through the window.

A  2-year old boy, Adam, who was sleeping inside the room was rescued but was badly injured, while all the properties inside the room was destroyed by the inferno.

Thereafter,  she and  her husband Jamiu Azeez and members of the family fled.
According to the victim, Shakiru, he rented the apartment two years ago and was using a small generator like  other tenants.

He said one morning, Nike’s husband, Jamiu Azeez told him that he should stop using  the generator.

According to him, when he challenged the selective ban, Nike ordered that he must comply with the ban.  Shakiru however ignored it and daily  powered his generator to charge his phones.

He  had once reported Nike to the police for damaging his doors and window. The police however dropped the case after the woman offered restitution, by repairing what was damaged.

Shakiru said he was at work on the day the arson. He said when he rushed home, everything had been destroyed.

A team of police officers from Isheri Oshun had visited the place to assess the damage done.
