Tragedy struck at Badagry area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria last night as 10 persons were burnt to death in a ghastly motor accident.

The accident took place around 10:30pm on Monday as two vehicles collided, with one of them, a commercial bus bursting into flame and roasting  its occupants.

Rasak Fadipe, Director, Lagos State Fire Service, in a text message around 11.21pm on Tuesday said there had been a ghastly motor accident with fatalities.

“A ghastly motor accident resulted into flame in Badagry with fatalities recorded,” he said in the text message, but did not disclose the number of people burnt to death.

 When contacted on phone, Fadipe said there was a collision between an unnamed vehicle and a commercial bus with passengers, saying that the bus caught fire with people roasted alive in the inferno.

 But Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Lagos State, Dolapo Badmos confirmed that 10 persons were burnt to death while seven others suffered serious injuries. 

Badmos said the injured had been taken to the Badagry General Hospital for urgent treatment.

However, the FRSC gave the number of injured as 12.
