Saul Niguez going for the killer punch

An 11 minute goal by Saul Niguez, after a solo run,   decided the first leg in the  UEFA Champions league second semi final match in favour of Atletico Madrid.

Bayern responded most especially in the second half, pounding the Atletico defence ceaselessly, but there was no chance for an equaliser.

And the German team’s efforts showed in the statistics: 71% of possession to their hosts 29, seven shots on target to their hosts 5 and nine shots off target to Atletico’s 2. Bayern’s desperation for an equaliser also reflected in the anxiety of their players playing rough.  Three of them, Mehdi Benatia, Arturo vidal and the goalkeeper, manuel Neuer were booked between 82nd and 88th minute of the thrilling game.

The second leg will take place in Munich  next Tuesday.
