Two persons were confirmed dead in an accident involving a ash-colour Mazda car and a blue Pathfinder sports utility vehicle at Itori area, on Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun on Monday.

Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed the incident.

It was the second accident in the area in 24 hours.On Sunday, few kilometres from the scene of this crash, two trucks ran into a herd of cattle, with one truck ending up in the bush. The two occupants died.

Akinbiyi told newsmen in Abeokuta that the latest crash was caused by speeding on the part of the driver of the Mazda car.

He said that the accident occurred around 12 noon at Itori, Iyana Camp, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

“The Mazda with registration number AAA 840 BS was coming from Abeokuta in high speed and lost control when a girl was crossing to the other side of the road.

“In an attempt to avoid the girl ,it swerved to the other side of the road and in the process collided with the Pathfinder with registration number BDG 587 DD, which was going toward Abeokuta.

“The two male occupants in the Mazda lost their lives on the spot, while occupants of the Pathfinder , one male and a female, were seriously injured and have been rushed to the state General Hospital, Ifo.

“Items recovered at the accident scene included N255,700; four cell phones; a Police cap and two wallets, all of which had been handed over to Police officers from Itori Police Station, “he said.

Akinbiyi said that the corpses had been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary, while the injured persons were taken to the same hospital.
