Newcastle won a massive three points today off Crystal Palace that saw them move out of the relegation zone by one point ahead of Sunderland.

Thanks to a 58th minute sensational free kick from 20 yards by Andros Townsend that sent fans at St James’ Park into a rapture.

And Palace will lament a 70th minute opportunity to cancel the goal after Yohan Cabaye fluffed a penalty kick which was saved by Newcastle keeper Karl Dalow.

The penalty call itself was questionable,as it was not clear that Mousa Sissoko handled any ball inside the box. But referee Mike Dean made the call and Dalow saved the day for Newcastle.

It was the first time since early February the Magpies, now with 33 points, moved clear of danger.

Newcastle will however know whether they will stay out of danger for at least a week when Norwich 19th on the table and with 31 points meet Arsenal today at the Emirates.
