Saraki: witness says he breached govt rule guiding sale of property

Senate President Bukola Saraki acquired three Federal Government Houses using names of different companies and accounts against the policy laid down for the disposal of the assets, a prosecuting counsel, Micheal Wetkas, an operative of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said.

He said this during examination in chief before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Monday.

Wetkas, the first prosecution witness while being led by Rotimi Jacobs, the prosecuting counsel said though the rules does not allow one person to buy more than one property, findings by the EFCC revealed that the defendant (Saraki) acquired three different properties from the scheme using different companies and personal names.

He listed the property acquired by Saraki under the scheme as  No 17 and 17A McDonald Road Ikoyi and number 15 Mcdonald, Ikoyi.

The witness said the Senate President as governor of Kwara State acquired 17 and 17A McDonald in his personal name and  number 15 McDonald, Ikoyi Lagos in the name of his  company Carlisle Properties Limited..

Wetkas led in evidence by Jacobs had earlier tendered as evidence cheques issued to the Federal Government Committee on sale of landed properties as well as documents indicating that the company which bought the third house belonged to Saraki.
