In view of the recent rampage by Fulani herdsmen on host communities, the chairman, South East Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Eberechi Dick of Abia State has called on the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, intervene in the Fulani attrocities on host communities in the country.

Briefing newsmen recently at government house Umuahia, Eze Eberechi Dick said this incident has become worrisome as it is taking a frightening dimension and demands immediate intervention by the federal government before it affects the unity of the country. He said: “We have been very disturbed since last Monday’s invasion of Ukpabi Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani LGA of Enugu state and that is why I make bold to state that there is urgent need by President Muhammadu Buhari to curb this dangerous incident before it threatens our national unity”.

The traditional ruler re-emphasized that Nigerians as a people respect the sanctity of life and therefore condemned in strong terms the way Fulani herdsmen destroy lives and properties with reckless abandon, noting that if this ugly trend is not urgently addressed, it could throw the country into crisis.

He said Nigeria is currently grappling with many security challenges and herdsmen experience could compound an already bad situation. The foremost traditional ruler, while commiserating with families that lost their dear ones, called on traditional rulers in the country to rise up and assist government in checkmating this menace.

Meanwhile, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has commiserated with the government and people of Enugu over the recent loss of lives in the state following the unwarranted invasion of Ukpabi Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani LGA. In a press statement issued by his chief press secretary, Mr. Godwin Adindu, the governor called on the federal government to rise to this new challenge on security that could threaten the peace and unity of this country.
