Following the nauseating revelations of high fraudulent practices and corruption perpetrated by senior government officials of Nigeria especially in the last administration, the Deputy Whip of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Omotayo Oduntan, has declared support for capital punishment for those found guilty.

Oduntan also supported the just passed capital punishment for kidnappers by the country’s Senate.

She however lamented the high unemployment in the country urging the government to employ more people, empower others and create the atmosphere for business to thrive in the country.

The lawmaker who represents Alimosho Constituency 2 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, spoke at a media parley at the Assembly Complex in Ikeja, the Lagos state capital on Thursday.

“I am in support of capital punishment for the kidnappers, it will serve as deterrent to many who thought the crime is a way to make cheap money.

“It will reduce the rate of criminality, it is not normal at all for young people who think they can make quick money through kidnapping be engage in such crime,” she told journalists while urging the National Assembly to extend same punishment to politicians who loot public funds to serve as deterrent to others.

“As I am in support of capital punishment for kidnappers, politicians who embezzle public money should be given the same punishment to serve as deterrent to others who might want to toe that line.

“Criminality and corruption will reduce to the bearest minimum with capital punishment. It is not normal to embezzle money that is meant for generation and the generations to come,” she added.

She urged women in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari to show example of good character, honesty and integrity in governance adding that all efforts must be made to ensure that masses experience change in their socio-economic life.

“I will advise all women in position of authority to be fair to people, be honest, be a good example to other women.

“They (women politicians) should be mirror of courage, good character, honesty and let them be committed to lift the common man in the streets,” she said.

Describing the recent fracas at the Edo State House of Assembly as unfortunate, she however said the good thing in the entire shameful saga was the emergence of a female speaker for the Assembly.

The new Speaker for the Edo State House of Assembly is Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie.

Oduntan urged her to ensure she made a good impart and leave a good legacy behind.

She further urged the rich in the country to help the poor masses come out of hardship and suffering while urging the citizens to be patient with President Muhammadu Buhari as she was optimistic he would meet the expectations of the people.
