The Chairman of Edo State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ademokun, Tuesday described the injunction granted the federal government by the National Industrial Court, which stopped the planned strike action by the NLC, until the determination of a suit filed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, as “black market injunction.”

He stated this while addressing journalists at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin, adding that the state chapter of the Union will not respect the court ruling.

He said the organised labour directed members to embark on industrial action pending the time government reverted to the old pump prices of N86:00k and N86:50k respectively.

According to Ademokun, the national body of the NLC had directed state chapters not to honour the ruling and start the strike action on Wednesday.

He disclosed that it was a known fact that the NLC in Edo State does not subscribe to rulings of the Industrial Court. He cited an incident in 2007 when the NLC in the state disregarded the ruling of the Industrial Court.

“We all agreed to commence the strike midnight on Tuesday and the federal government actually summoned the organised labour for a meeting and the meeting was deadlock. A proposal was being discussed as I speak to you now. But the organised labour actually rejected the proposal of the federal government to put on hold the proposed strike. As I speak now, the strike action with the protest will continue as planned for tomorrow (Wednesday).

“We have consulted with all our partners. The market women and all Nigerians will join us in the struggle. The struggle is to release Nigerians from the slavery Buhari has put them. ‎

“‎The court injunction is a black market injunction, we are not going to honour it. It is an indefinite strike action until the government reverses the rices of petroleum products pump price to N86.50 and again, electricity tariff reversed to the old rate.

“We are moving ahead with the strike action. We are going to seal of petrol stations across the state and any filling station that flout the order, we will mobilise and dispense their fuel at N86,” he said.
