Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa on Sunday that none of the local government in the State can pay workers more than 30 per cent of their workers’ entitlements  from the allocations they got from the federation account in the month of May.

“As I speak to you now, last month’s (May, 2016) allocation to Local Governments Councils in the state is nothing to write home about.

“In fact, I am not sure any of the Councils can pay its workers more than 30 per cent of their entitlements,” the Governor who lamented that corruption has taken over the third tier of government said.

While calling for a complete restructuring of the Local Government system to make it serve people at the grassroots, the governor lamented that corruption at the third tier level did not allow people to reap the advantages envisaged in the arrangement.

He noted that over-staffing arising from the employment of ‘friends, family members and associates of those at the helm of affairs in local government councils, were responsible for some of the challenges in local government administration.

“You will discover that people, who had the opportunity of piloting the affairs of the local governments at one point or the other, turned it to a family affair.

“They do this by bringing in their families and friends as employees and when they leave office, these cronies remain in the system, thereby causing more problems to it,” he observed.
