President Muhammadu Buhari will be arriving Ogoniland to flag off the long awaited implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP, report to kick off the clean up of all polluted sites.

At the flag off of 16 km Sakpenwa-Bori-Kono dual carriageway, Governor Nyesom Wike advised Ogoni people to cooperate with the federal government in the planned clean up through the implementation of the UNEP report to be launched by the Buhari on 2 June.

He cautioned Ogoni people not to play politics with the implementation of the UNEP report. “Forget your political differences, but cooperate with the federal government in the cleaning up of Ogoniland. Please forget whether you are PDP, APC, APGA or Labour Party. The clean up of Ogoniland is too important to be mixed with politics. It has been a dream for all Ogoni people that your environment be cleaned. The federal government needs your maximum support. We as a government will also support the clean up.”

While commissioning a water project at Alesa in Eleme Local Government area, Wike shocked his Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Ibibia Walters, and the contractor that built Alesa and Agbonchia Water Booster Stations project in Eleme Local Government area when he threatened that they be punished if the water project malfunctions after commissioning.

According Governor Wike: “I don’t want to hear that this water project is not functioning after I have commissioned it. The commissioner and contractor will be in trouble if I hear that after today’s commissioning, the water project stopped working after commissioning”.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Rumukurusi-Eneka-Igwuruta road on Thursday, Governor Wike said that he is determined to make a difference in the lives of the people.

He reiterated that his administration will complete all key projects abandoned by the immediate past administration, especially those that will impact positively on the lives of the people.

The governor said: “We will never disappoint the people of the state. You will not regret giving us your mandate.

“We don’t care who awarded the project. Our concern is to execute projects that will impact positively on the community “.

He commended the people of the three communities of Rumukurusi-Eneka-Igwuruta for cooperating with the contractor to deliver the project on schedule.

Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu said the road was abandoned in a deplorable condition by the immediate past administration.

He said the completion of the road has revived the economy of the three communities and created access to the Port Harcourt International Airport.

The commissioning witnessed celebration by chiefs and residents of the populated suburbs.
