Streets sweepers in Oyo State today peacefully demonstrated in Ibadan, capital of Oyo State over non-payment of their salaries for the past three months.

The sweepers, majorly elderly women, who lamented that it was so sad that the authority is so callous to owe them salary of just N7500 called on the agency in charge of their recruitment to immediately pay their salary.

“Two of their representatives, Madam Sidikatu Muritala and Iyabo Yusuf who are over sixty years of age noted that the money is so small and not enough to feed them but it is so crucial to their existence in life.

Sidikatu said, “Help us and pay our salary. We don’t need money for party. We just need money for survival. We only need money to eat. As you can see, most of us are old and we don’t have anybody to take care of us. That is why we are doing this dirty job. We are not complaining as long as we are not stealing but the government should have mercy on us by paying our stipend on time”.

Corroborating, Madam Iyabo said, “I have not eaten today. Government should not allow hunger to kill us. Please, giver us our money, we are only begging”.
