Arsene Wenger:

Well if you are a fan of Arsenal football club, widely regarded by many critics, including some of its most passionate supporters as an underachiever in the English Premier League at least in the past 10 years, this is a news that may not be exciting: Arsene Wenger won’t be leaving any time soon.

Most supporters of the London club had blamed the London’s club perpetual punching below what they believed to be its real weight to failures of the French coach.

Frustrated Gunners supporters had demanded for the sack of the coach especially after the Premier League title they believed was within their reach slipped off in the just concluded 2015/2016 EPL season.

This was in spite of the fact that Arsenal went on to secure a second-placed top flight finish for the first time in 11 years.

Indeed, some supporters, at the last game against Norwich during which the club cemented its second place finish had held up banners carrying the message: “Time to change,” a reflection of the general feeling among the London club’s fan worldwide.

This was a feeling not shared by Ivan Gazidis, Arsenal chief executive. Gazidis told London Telegraph that the 66 years old manager remains the right man to deliver trophies to the Emirates.

The reason that Arsene is here is because he believes that he can deliver success,” Gazidis told the Telegraph.

“If either of us didn’t believe that we would not be constrained by nostalgia or longing; we would have to make a change.”

Though he agreed that at his change, the Frenchman will have to depart Arsenal someday, for now, he said the club’s immediate plans are all centred around the Frenchman.

“He’s in his mid-sixties, it’s natural to think about when his time here might come to an end, but the truth is nobody knows,” adds Gazidis.

“He is in fantastic shape. He is deeply engaged and excited. One of the biggest challenges we will face is the transition, whenever it happens, but that is not something we are going to be facing imminently.

Obviously, he is going to be managing us next year and we are planning and making many decisions for the long term.”
