Brig. General Abubakar Rabe: issues warning on behalf of DHQ

Nigerian military authority has  uncovered plans by Boko Haram terrorist group to carry out large scale bombings during the Muslim Ramadan fasting scheduled to begin early next week.

The terrorist group, according to Nigeria Defence Headquarters, DHQ plans to target the usual large gathering of Muslims in Mosques for prayers in the early mornings and evenings during the fasting period to achieve its evil objective.

Boko Haram had claimed responsibility for bombings of Mosques which had resulted in massive loss of lives in Kano, Borno and other parts of North East Nigeria in the past.

And planning such schemes is not strange to the group whose members are now on the run following massive military action against it in North east Nigeria.

Colonel Rabe Abubakar, acting director defence information who revealed the insurgent group’s latest plot in a statement on Saturday said “information available to this (Defence) Headquarters indicated plans by terrorists to use the Ramadan periods which usually attracts gathering of large number of persons during morning and evening worships and prayers to carry out large scale bombings.”

“The Defence Headquarters therefore advised  the general public to be watchful of strange persons and objects in their localities particularly, around places of worships and to promptly report same to security agencies

“It is further to advice that adequate security and surveillance be evolved by respective places of worship to forestall any unwholesome acts by some unscrupulous elements.

“The DHQ wishes to reassure law abiding citizens to go about their normal businesses while efforts are being made to eliminate the remnants of the terrorists from their hideouts as well as addressing other security challenges in the country,” Brigadier General Abubakar concluded.
