Kogi: Governor Bello declares war on criminal gangs

Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi has declared total war against criminal gangs operating in the state.

Bello stated this when he led the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai and his delegation on a courtesy visit to the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, Dr Ado Ibrahim.

He said the latest collaboration with the Army and other security agencies would make the state unbearable for the criminals.

Bello added that the state government’s new policies on security awareness would be strictly enforced.
“I want to warn again that for criminals and those who harbour them, the end of the road has come.

“Let me state categorically that the jungle, the hills, our communities will henceforth be too hot for the criminals.

“To this end, any house, any community that is found to be harbouring criminals, thugs and miscreants will be demolished, the policy of know your neighbour has indeed taken effect.

“We have a very difficult terrain here in Kogi. but I believe that the Army will do the needful,” he said.

The governor appealed to the people of the state to support security agencies to rid the state of criminals.

He warned that communities and persons colluding with criminals including their relations would be prosecuted.
Bello said under the new policy, the dragnet would include parents, friends and relations of criminals.

He assured the people of the state that government was working tirelessly to end the spate of criminality in the state.

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff Buratai commended the government and people of the state for the support given to the Army.

Buratai said he was not unmindful of the challenges being faced by security agencies in the course of discharging their duties in the state.

He assured them of prompt attention and support, especially in the area of equipment support and training.

In his remarks, the Ohinoyi, Dr Ado Ibrahim commended the efforts of the military in safeguarding the state.

He appealed for the deployment of more troops to Ebira land to check the high rate of crime in the area.
