Huge quantities of ice cream which had expired since 2014 and stored in the United African Company of Nigeria UACN cold room in Port Harcourt have been impounded by environmental health officers attached to Port Harcourt City Local Government Area in Rivers State.

The State President of the Environmental Health Officers, Reuben Nwechenu, who led the team of Environmental health officers and personally supervised the evacuation said the ice cream which expired since 2014 was discovered following a tip-off.

The expired and contaminated ice cream were evacuated and disposed with the assistance of security agencies.

The president of environmental health officers in Rivers State said the action was taken to prevent unsuspecting public from purchasing the expired ice cream for consumption.

Nwechenu said management of the food company located on Azikiwe Road in port Harcourt will be sanctioned for allegedly selling expired food items to the public.

The management of U.A.C.N, the alleged owners of the expired ice cream, refused to comment on circumstances surrounding the storage of the expired ice cream.
