Omisore: arrested

Chief Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State and a chieftain of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party has been arrested by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

It was gathered that the Omisore was arrested after a raid on his Abuja residence by the operatives of the anti graft agency on Sunday morning.

The PDP chieftain, it was gathered was taken to the Abuja Head Office of the anti graft agency where he is been presently questioned on some of the graft allegations for which the anti graft agency had declared him wanted some weeks ago.

EFCC had declared Omosore wanted on 25 May  in connection with a case of receiving and misappropriating N700 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, between June and November, 2014, according to a statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson of the anti graft agency.

A company linked to Omisore was alleged to be on the list of 241 contractors who got contracts from the office of the NSA in 2014, but did not do any job to justify the payment.

The former deputy governor was declared wanted after he repeatedly failed to honour the invitation of the anti graft agency.

Instead, Omisore had approached the court asking that the EFCC should be stopped from arresting him.
