The FCT Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of Sunday Yusuf, a former Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa.

Yusuf was on June 9 killed at his residence at Wuse, Zone 5, FCT.

The outgoing FCT Commissioner of Police, AIG Alkali Usman, made the disclosure during the handover ceremony on Wednesday in Abuja.

Usman said that the suspect was helping the police to arrest the other culprits who participated in the crime.

Similarly, he said that the police was “on top’’ of the case involving Mrs Eunice Olalekan, the woman preacher who was murdered in Kubwa.

“As for the murder of Deaconess Eunice, we are also on it ; we have not been able to break through on the case,“he said.

He assured that the police would not rest on its oars until the culprits were identified and arrested.

“I just want to mention that we are on and will continue to be on until we are able to arrest these culprits and bring them to book,“he said.

The commissioner said that he would not say much on the case in order not to jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

Responding, the new FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammed Mustapha, called for the cooperation of the media to effectively provide security in the territory.

Mustapha said that there was need for the command to collaborate with the media to effectively discharge its duty.

“There is need to collaborate, for the media has an important role to play in the area of security.

“We are going to seek your cooperation to move the security of the FCT forward,“he said.

He promised to continue from where his predecessor, who is now the AIG in charge of Zone 7, Abuja, stopped.

The high point of the occasion was the handing over of some documents by the outgoing commissioner to his successor.

In a related development, the outgoing commissioner said that the command had arrested two suspects who specialised in printing fake foreign currencies.

He made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja while presenting the suspects to newsmen.

The commissioner said that the suspects were Hamisu Ahmed, 35 years old and Abdullahi Garba, also 35-years old, and from Kano State.

Usman said that items recovered from the suspects included eighty thousand US dollars, three hundred thousand six hundred and fifty pounds and six cell phones.

Others are: 24 SIM cards; one 4matic Mercedes Benz car belonging to one of the suspects and two peers of masquerade masks.

He said that the suspects were arrested after a tip-off at their hideouts in Wuse 2, Abuja, while planning to defraud their victim.

The commissioner said that the suspects who resided in Kano came to Abuja mainly to defraud their victim.
