Alhaji Shinkafi

Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, a former boss of Nigerian Security Organisation, NSO is dead. He was aged 79.

Shinkafi who had extensive career in military intelligence  died in London on Wednesday after a period of prolonged illness.

He was a leading aspirant on the ticket of defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in 1992 before the military government cancelled the primary.

Shinkafi who was Marafan Sokoto was the vice-presidential candidate of Olu Falae in the APP/AD alliance in 1999.

He will be buried on Friday.

Meanwhile President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the government and people of Sokoto State on the passing away of  Shinkafi.

The President, in a statement signed on his behalf by Femi Adesina, his spokesperson, described the deceased as a politician, administrator and technocrat and an expert whose contributions to the development of the security architecture of Nigeria remains indelible, adding that others carried on where he left off.

The President also recalled that the former Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs and boss of NSO, played frontline roles in the activities leading to the eventual return and enthronement of democracy in the country.

The President also called on family members, friends and associates of the departed community leader who held the Marafan Sokoto  traditional title  to take solace in the fact that the late Umaru Shinkafi played the parts assigned to him diligently , conscientiously and patriotically , enjoining them to emulate the good virtues that he left behind.

He prayed that Almighty Allah will grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
