The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris has deployed a special force, comprising the mobile police force, the counter-terrorism unit with the back-up of an Air Surveillance Team to flush out vandals and other criminal elements operating in Arepo and Ibafor areas of Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria.

The special force is part of the Tactical Operation Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. Activities of vandals and criminals had been rampant in Arepo and Ibafo areas in recent times.

Over 15 people had been killed by vandals in Arepo in the last few weeks. Arepo communities have been under the stranglehold of vandals who invade the areas to wreak havoc intermittently. Several residents had fled the area to avert being killed.

However, the IGP said the deployment of the Tactical Operation Unit to Arepo/Ibafor was to ensure that normalcy returned to the areas in record time.

Idris, in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah also said the Nigeria Police Force would not watch any criminal group (s) took the law into their hands.

He, therefore, authorized the special force to deal decisively with anyone who constitutes himself an enemy of the State, while urging law-abiding citizens of the area to return home and go about their normal businesses.

In another development, the Nigeria Police Force has arrested one Aloysius Ebiniko, said to be the kingpin of the armed who abducted and murdered Col. Samaila Inusa on 27 March, 2016 in Kaduna, Kaduna State.

The arrest of Ebiniko was made possible as a result of a credible technical intelligence employed by the Police after a confessional statement of a member of the gang earlier arrested.

According to the statement, Ebiniko would soon be arraigned in court as those earlier arrested in connection with the crime had been arraigned and are remanded in Prison custody.
