Senator Oluremi Tinubu

The altercations between the Senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu and his colleague representing Kogi West senatorial district took a different turn on Monday as the Lagos Senator wrote the Inspector General of Police requesting for adequate security.

 In the letter, Senator Tinubu asked for police protection, claiming that Melaye, is a threat to her life.

The two Senators had during a closed door session of the Senate last Tuesday reportedly exchanged words during which the Kogi Senator was said to have threatened not only to beat up her female counterpart, but also used sexually explicit words against her.

 In the latter dated July 18 and titled “Request for Police Protection” the Senator also explained what transpired during the executive session of the Senate that resulted in the exchange of words between her and the Kogi Senator.

She also explained that the leadership of the Senate failed to caution Melaye as he rained insults on her.

In the letter to the Acting IG, The Lagos Central senator said:   “During the proceedings of the Senate on Tuesday July 14, 2016, I had a cause to contribute to a matter of national importance.

“Apparently dissatisfied by my contributions, Senator Dino Melaye threw caution to the winds, resorted to vulgar abuse of my person and wanted to assault me.”

“It was the intervention of a number of colleagues which prevented Senator Melaye from unleashing physical attack on me.

“However, as the leadership of the Senate did not call him to order in the circumstance, he proceeded to threaten my life without provocation whatsoever.

“In view of Senator Melaye’s antecedent, particularly in the House of Representatives where a brawl led by him led to untimely death of a member, I have decided to not ignore his threat to my life. Therefore, I am compelled to urge you to use your good offices to provide me with adequate security.”

It was gathered that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris received the letter on Monday.
