Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt won his third straight 100-meter final at the Olympics Sunday night — a feat no one  had accomplished before now at the games thus confirming his status as one of the greatest athletes ever.

Bolt became the only person to capture the Olympic 100-meter title three times, capturing the gold medal with a time of 9.81 seconds.

U.S Justin Gatlin was beaten to the gold by  by 0.08 seconds while Canada’s Andre De Grasse took bronze with a personal best of 9.91.

Another Jamaican,  Elaine Thompson had a day before won the women’s 100 metres and thus, the Jamaicans have now won both the men’s and women’s 100 at the past three Olympics.

“This is what I came here for to prove to the world that I’m the best again,” Bolt said after the scoreboard confirmed him as the winner of the race.

The sprinter said he will now attempt to win his third straight Olympic 200 meters later in the week and the 4×100 relay. He told reporters that he didn’t come to Rio de Janeiro to win just a single gold medal.

“It’s a good start,” Bolt said.

“Somebody said I can become immortal,” Bolt said after his latest win. “Two more medals to go, and I can sign off. Immortal.”
