No fewer than 14 people have died amid airstrikes targeting a medical facility in southern Aleppo two days after a fierce attack on an aid convoy, a medical organisation said on Wednesday.

Zaidoun Zoabi, chief executive of the Union of Medical Care and Relief Organisations (UOSSM), said two nurses, two ambulance drivers and 10 patients were killed in the attack on the facility.

The organisation said in a statement that the airstrike hit UOSSM’s Khan Touman medical triage point on Tuesday, destroying the facility and two ambulances.

“There are fears that there might be more victims under the rubble.

“This is the worst day for me since I joined UOSSM. Two days ago, it was a humanitarian convoy, today it is us.

“Those attacks on people sacrificing their lives to help people have to stop. These are war crimes by all means,’’ Zoabi said.

Founded in 2012, UOSSM is a coalition of humanitarian, non-governmental and medical organisations from the U.S., Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Turkey.

According to the group, the medical point provides triage and emergency medical services to approximately 750 wounded patients a month.

The attack on the UOSSM facility came two days after a bombardment hit 18 aid trucks in northern Aleppo province killing no fewer than 21 aid workers and civilians.

The UN said that the attack could amount to a “war crime”. (dpa/NAN)
