Nigeria records not less than 6000 deaths every year resulting from road accidents across the country. Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), disclosed this yesterday at the RS4 2016 zonal retreat held in Makurdi, Benue Sate. The theme of the retreat is “Strategies for Improved Enforcement and Public Education towards Reduction of RTC in the zone.”

Describing the figure as unacceptable, the Corps Marshall decried the high rate of loss of lives to road crashes and opined that the enforcement of the speed limiting device which came into effect last month was to save lives of Nigerians.

He however assured that through the implementation of the speed limiting device, road crashes, would be drastically reduced. He revealed that more than 10,000 drivers have already complied even as the FRSC with continue to enforce compliance.

.While declaring the event opened, the state deputy governor, Engr. Benson Abounu who represented governor Samuel Ortom at the event lauded the FRSC in the zone for their effort in ensuring reduction of road crashes and indiscipline within its operational States of Benue, Nasarrawa and Plateau.

Abounu also intimated that the state government has sent a bill to the House of Assembly for the establishment of Benue State Road Management Agency in order to compliment the efforts of the FRSC in the state.
