The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports that the Police say they arrested 33 suspects for allegedly committing various criminal offences in Oct. in Nasarawa State.

Abubakar Sadiq-Bello, Commissioner of Police in the state, disclosed this to journalists in Lafia on Friday.

Sadiq-Bello said 13 were arrested over armed robbery, five over culpable homicide, five over cultism, two over rape and indecent assault, two over theft, and four over vandalism, amongst others.

He said five locally made guns and several rounds of ammunitions, three vehicles, three motorcycles and N5.6 million in cash were recovered from the robbery suspects.

The Police boss said “the money was recovered from a cleaner with Diamond Bank, New Karu branch, who was arrested on Oct. 24, after stealing it from the bank.’’

Sadiq-Bello said the suspect confessed during interrogation that he had locked himself in bank’s toilet after the day’s job before perpetrating the act.

“However, luck ran out on him as he was arrested with a carton containing the said sum.’’

He also mentioned a case of a 25 years old man from Amba village in Kokona Local Government Area of the state, who was arrested on Oct. 2, for allegedly killing his 75 years old mother with a sword following an altercation.

Sadiq-Bello said all the suspects would be prosecuted as soon as investigations were concluded.

He said the arrests were made possible with the cooperation of members of the public and called for the sustenance of such collaboration in order to rid the state of criminal elements.

He pledged that the police will not relent in carrying out their constitutional mandate to achieve peace and security in the state, especially during the “ember” months. (NAN)
