Ambode to establish International Conference Centre for Lagos

Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Sunday said the state government would work toward the construction of a standard International Conference and Exhibition Centre.

Aaccording to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Ambode, represented by his Deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule, gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of the 30th Lagos International Trade Fair in Lagos.

He said that the trade fair organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) lacked standard exhibition facilities that would engender staging of a befitting international trade fair.

“We shall continue to place high priority on the provision of key infrastructure that will make our state safe, secure, functional and productive through a highly motivated and vibrant private sector,” Ambode said.

The governor said the array of products and services displayed by local and foreign exhibitors showed that the country has a lot to offer the global market.

He said the beehive of activities at the fair also revealed that participants had been reawakened to the need to challenge their creative spirit and take the right steps toward national economic rebirth.

Also, Mrs Nike Akande, the LCCI President, said that she was impressed by the massive participation at the fair in spite of the economic recession.

Akande said that the turnout demonstrated their confidence in the nation’s economy, urging the state government to tackle impediments to investments, especially infrastructure, policy frameworks, quality of institutions and funding.

She commended the disposition of government toward creating enabling environment for the organised private sector to thrive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that exhibitors from China, Egypt, Japan, India, European Union, Indonesia, Ghana and Pakistan participated in the fair.

The fair which started on Nov. 4 had 120 foreign exhibitors, five local exhibitors and some states in attendance.(NAN)
