The Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, UI, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, today disclosed that though, admission into the Post Graduate School of the institution is highly competitive because of its acceptability and popularity of the new and existing programmes, it admits as much as its facilities could take.

Olayinka disclosed this during the convocation ceremony of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters Degrees, and M. Phil/MPH in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Public Health Dentistry and Law, Agriculture and Forestry, The Social Sciences, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Technology, Pharmacy and the Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute.

According to him, out of a total number of 12,301 applications received for the 2015/2016 academic session, only 6,520 qualified candidates were admitted.

Olayinka pointed out that the premier’s Postgraduate School has continued to be a major producer of high quality manpower needed to propel development in Nigeria adding, “This is evidenced in the 442 Ph.D degrees from various disciplines that would be awarded on Thursday. I wish to reiterate that this is a feat that is so far unrivalled in our country, and indeed in the African region. I wish to reiterate that the vision of the University is tied to the pursuit of the national goals of development through knowledge creation and dissemination, with a view of promoting national transformation”.

Pointing out that a total of 4,022 candidates would be conferred with various postgraduate degrees, Olayinka broke it down to reflect 422 PhD, one MD, 30 MPhil, 93 MPH, 2940 Academic Masters, 407 Professional Masters, and 109 Postgraduate Diploma.
