A United States-based Non governmental Organization, the Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) has concluded plans to engage Kogi State government on issues affecting business outfits and other development projects in the state.

The NGO in collaboration with the Kogi Coalition of Business and Professional Association (KOCOBPA) has at the end of one-day workshop, said it has discovered some key priority issues inhibiting the growth of business in the Confluence State.

While addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre  in Lokoja, the chairman of KOCOBPA, Dr. John Alabi said lack of interface between the government and business community, infrastructure deficit and multiple taxation are some of the key challenges, disclosing that the major task of the NGO is to bridge these gaps for speedy development.

“Our vision is to serve as a strong and influential voice for creating a business friendly environment and professionals to operate, while our mission is to influence the business and economic policies of the state through effective advocacy, legislation and Public-Private Partnership dialogue by 2020”, he disclosed.

Dr. Alabi who commended the present administration on its effort to alleviate the sufferings in the state through its New Direction Agenda called for more efforts in order to make the society more habitable.

In his remarks, a media consultant, Mr Bartholomew Ademu who lauded the noble intentions of the CIPE, appealed to the press to beam its searchlight on development issues affecting the state.

He noted that conduct of evidence-based surveys on business activities, media advocacy and organization of roundtable dialogue with the public sector are some of the strategies that would be employed to ensure enabling environment where business activities would thrive.
