Out of a total Seven Hundred and Ten (710) contractors engaged by the Benue State Government to execute various jobs for the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB in different parts of the State, Three Hundred and Seventy Six (376) of them have absconded from duty, threatening the execution of the jobs.
This was disclosed to newsmen in Makurdi today by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB in the State, Dr. Philip Tarchin. He disclosed further that the unfaithful contractors have been mobilized with 15 percent of their fees since 28th June. But, they have refused to move to site.
Tarchin explained that in the circumstance, the board had given the defaulters time frame to move to site or be dragged to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for investigations, possible prosecution anti that they may have their contracts revoked.

“Our schools were in dilapidated form when this administration came to office and with the strong desire to turn things around for the benefit of our people, contracts were given to renovate schools and build new schools, unfortunately, out of 710 mobilized to work only 334 moved to site”. Said Tarchin.

He disclosed that there are plans to report the defaulters to the anti graft agency. When asked whether he had political will to pursue justice in the matter, Tarchin said, ‘our governor has been a crusader in the fight against corruption, so in this board we have keyed into the fight, I don’t mind whether the defaulters have political godfather, we will not spare anyone who tend to rubbish the good work we are doing’.
